Visual studio 2008 Crystal Report icons/toolbar not working when deployed on web server

I have built a web page which contains a Crystal Report built using the Crystal libraries included in Visual Studio 2008. It 'works on my machine' but when deployed to the web server the icons (Export, Print etc) on the Crystal Report toolbar do not display or work. Just seeing the 'red X' where the button image should be and clicking does nothing. I have checked that the toolbar images are actually in the location being looked at on the web server: (C:/Inetpub/wwwroot/aspnet_client/system_

Visual studio 2008 Is it possible to deploy and debug PocketPC applications in the SDK emulators without using ActiveSync?

Im currently working on a PPC application that I would like to test in the PPC emulator "USA Windows mobile 5.0 PC R2 Emulator" without using Active Sync. Somewhere in my back head I think I have been able to just do that: But when I start a debug session with Visual Studio, it can not deploy the application to the emulator. All I get in the build log is: 9>------ Deploy started: Project: DLL1, Configuration: Debug Salsa ARMv4 Windows Mobile 5.0 Pocket PC SDK (ARMV4I) ------ 9>There are n

Visual studio 2008 User Controls not showing up in the toolbox

I have some UserControls that I created in ProjectA. I have ProjectB that has a windows form that I want to put the controls on. Both of these projects are in a single solution. There's a reference to ProjectA from ProjectB so it can "see" the UserControls. However, the UserControls do not show up in the toolbox for me to drag to the windows form. I've tried rebuilding. I've also deleted the 'bin' directory to force a rebuild-all. How do I get VS2008 to populate the toolbox with my UserCo

Visual studio 2008 What is your biggest time saving feature in Visual Studio 2008

The reason for me asking this question is:- I get a real buzz out of discovering features in Visual Studio 2008 that end up saving me oodles of time every day. Recently found a blog by Sara Ford who grinds out a tip each day on her blog. Am wondering what is the biggest time saving tip you can give in terms of using the IDE in visual studio 2008? Up to now the best feature I have discovered is Ctrl + and Ctrl - for navigating back and forth.

Visual studio 2008 How to add Assembly Information to a Web Site/App in Visual Studio 2008

Can anyone tell me how to add an AssemblyInfo.vb file to a Web Application converted from NET2.0 to NET3.5. I'd like to add the manifest information but cannot find a way to do for the Web Application's compiled DLL. I am using Web Deployment Projects for Visual Studio 2008 if this makes a difference. I'm also going to be replacing the version number with the SVN build number but haven't gotten that far yet :) Thanks

Visual studio 2008 visual studio 2008 intellisense disappearing after 1 second

I'm having a weird problem in visual studio where I'll type a namespace/class/whatever, and intellisense will pop up as expected, but before I can highlight or read anything, it will disappear. If I ctrl-space or ctrl-j, then it will pop up again, but again it will disappear after less than a second. If I move real fast and start pushing the up and down arrows, then it will stay up as long as I keep pushing keys. As soon as I stop, it disappears again. I have tried closing/reopening the project

Visual studio 2008 What are all the programs to uninstall to remove visual studion 2008 express?

I am a novice tool user but was required to load VS 2008 for a class I was taking which we only used one time. I did not register the copy on my one time use and now 6 months later am required to use VS 2005 for another class. My problem - I need to uninstall 2008 and install 2005. I'm not sure what programs to uninstall from the Add/remove programs list. I need specific names and order so I can do it right and not mess up. I know many would say why not just use 2008 - well I do have 2008

Visual studio 2008 How to delete multiple files with msbuild/web deployment project?

I have an odd issue with how msbuild is behaving with a VS2008 Web Deployment Project and would like to know why it seems to randomly misbehave. I need to remove a number of files from a deployment folder that should only exist in my development environment. The files have been generated by the web application during dev/testing and are not included in my Visual Studio project/solution. The configuration I am using is as follows: <!-- Partial extract from Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 Web

Visual studio 2008 Enable drag and drop into Visual Studio 2008 from Windows Explorer

Is there some way to enable Visual Studio 2008 to accept dropped files from Windows explorer? I can't count the number of times I've instinctively dragged a file into VS just to be reminded of this obvious feature than seems to be missing. Surely there has to be some way to do this. EDIT I did find the VS Explorer addin while searching for an answer to this. I like it, but it would still be nice to have drag and drop from explorer. EDIT II To clarify I would like to be able to open pr

Visual studio 2008 Sudden changes to Visual Studio

I've have been using Visual Studio 2005, alongside Visual Web Developer 2008 to create web-apps in vb. I recently installed Visual Studio 2008 alongside these, along with AnkhSVN - and have noticed a few changes which are causing issues! The most noticable is that in my solution explorer (I'm creating apps in vb) I no longer expand an .aspx page to display the .vb counterpart - I have to right click and view code. Also, when adding a new file to the solution - the whole interf

Visual studio 2008 How to get AJAX intellisense on a control after OnInit

Visual studio 2008 VS2008 Remote Debugging problems from 32-bit Windows XP client to 64-bit Windows 2008 Server

We are having an issue with remote dedubbing using Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 on a 32 bit XP client machine and a 64 bit Windows Server 2008 Virtual Machine on Hyper-V. When we debug the web project locally we can correctly see the modules loaded in the modules window (Ctrl + Alt + U) with the relevant symbols. When we try and debug the project remotely and attach to the process we get the yellow triangle in the breakpoint with the message ‘No symbols have been loaded and the breakpoint will

Visual studio 2008 How do you Debug/Run classic asp pages in Visual Studio 2008?

Whenever I try to open a classic asp page while running the site in VS2008 I get the error: "This type of page is not served". How do you Debug/Run classic asp pages in Visual Studio 2008? AnthonyWJones has the correct answer but it is not letting me select an answer for some reason. Here is a tutorial I found that goes into more details how to set up VS2008 and XP to debug classic asp

Visual studio 2008 Clang static analyzer on Windows

Does anybody have any success running clang static analyzer on Windows? I have successfully built llvm and clang (using VS 2008). Running scan-build results in the following error: The getpwuid function is unimplemented at scan-build line 35. Some research shows that getpwuid is not supported on Windows platforms.

Visual studio 2008 How to debug failure of a custom action in an MSI/Setup project

For a custom action, I'm setting to Name to XmlPreprocess.exe (a CodePlex utility) and arguments to: /x:"[SETTINGSFILE]" /i:"[TARGETDIR]web.config" /e:[ENVIRONMENTBUTTON] [CUSTOMSETTINGS] >[TARGETDIR]XmlPreProcess.log SETTINGSFILE is supposed to be coming from a custom form page I added, and ENVIRONMENTBUTTON is the value of one of my radio buttons. Visual studio 2008 vshost.exe crashes on start or open of windows form project

Visual Studio 2008 has been running well for quite awhile now. I've used it for web, console, windows form, WPF, WCF, and class library projects. All has worked, until today. Now, whenever I try to start a new windows form project (regardless of .NET version), it crashes with the message, vshost.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. <irrelevantRemark>Sure, you're sorry...</irrelevantRemark> I've tried starting other kinds

Visual studio 2008 Visual Studio 2008 give error of component not found

I'm been using VS 2008 "forever". Rebooted yesterday and now I get an error that says a component can not be found. This is on the devenv.exe executable and is the first thing that is displayed. I've reinstalled, I've uninstalled and installed VS2008 twice and still get the same error. Searching on the net shows people having a similar problem with a missing alt dll, but I don't have VC++ loaded and that dll is not missing. Have ran the depends.exe and the only missing dll is dwmapi.dll, whic

Visual studio 2008 Visual Studio Unit Test failure to start

I am having an issue when starting the tests under debug mode in Visual Studio 2008 Team Test where it gives the following error: "Failed to queue test run '{user@machinename}': Object reference not set to an instance of an object." I googled for the error but no joy. Don't even understand what it means as it is too brief. Has anyone come across this? Note that I can run tests fine if I am not debugging and I get the same error irrespective of the test I run. Thank you, Swati ETA: Being

Visual studio 2008 Web Site in solution where "Rebuild Solution" compile succeeds cannot launch debugger

I have a solution that includes a Web Site (created using the web site template not the web app project template - converting isn't an option, btw). When I rebuild all, the compile succeeds, but strangely displays 3 errors, all of which are "Could not get dependencies for project reference 'PROJNAME'". When I try to launch the debugger, I get the "There were build errors." dialogue. Two questions: If I choose the 'Yes' option in the debug error dialogue to run the last successful build, w

Visual studio 2008 Multiple applications using shared DLLs

I have a few different applications that share some common DLLs. At the moment I am copying each DLL into the application root folder (for each application) and it all works fine. Obviously this isn't exactly the most efficient way as if I need to make a change in one, I need to redeploy this several times to all the different folders. Ideally I would like the DLLs to be installed into the Common folder in the Program Files dir and my application just pointing to them. I can do this through my

Visual studio 2008 Visual Studio 2008 started using C++ syntax when debugging a C# project!

Has anyone ever experienced this ? VS 2008 bug Out of the blue, Visual Studio 2008 started using C++ syntax when debugging a C# project, even though I've probably never even opened a C++ project on this computer (it's installed though). Restarting visual studio and the computer does not help, is there a way out of this without reinstalling Visual Studio ?

Visual studio 2008 Difference between C7 Compatible and Program Database

I found very little information on the difference between C7 compatible and Program Database (there is a third one, Program Database Edit and Continue, but that should be the same as Program Database with the ability to edit and continue). The only solid information I could find was that C7 compatible embeds the debug information in the obj files, while the Program Database creates a .pdb file for debugging purposes. Is there an upside to using C7 compatible vs. Program Database? What is the d

Visual studio 2008 How do I force Visual Studio 2008 to save vcproj files with correct locale?

In my team, some are developing using Swedish locale (albeit with English language) and others are using US-English. I prefer Swedish formatting of date/time/number/currency. There's a bug in the formatting of the version field in the vcproj file which means that it's constantly being changed from comma to dot and back again, depending on who edited the file last. The diffs look like this: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="Windows-1252"?> <VisualStudioProject ProjectType="Visua

Visual studio 2008 SSRS/CRM: No dropdown list shown

I have a followup problem to my previous question. I have got the list for a single client and a specific year. But now I have to create a dropdown list so the user can choose the year for which the abscence/presence list will be generated. To achieve this I've created a dataset which generates years (from this year to a specific year in the past). This dataset fills a parameter (CRM_Year) with the year values. At last I filter the dataset which provides the abscence/presence values by the pa
